Born in 1987 and sired by Bizen Nishiki, Daitaku Helios won ten of his 35 starts. His defining achievement was back-to-back Mile Championship victories in 1991 and 1992, beating Daiichi Ruby and Shinko Lovely respectively. Though best remembered as a miler, his seven graded wins stretched from the 1,200-metre Crystal Cup to the 2,000-metre Takamatsunomiya Hai, which was still a GII race in 1991. Two Milers Cups and the 1992 Mainichi Okan rounded out a record that showed speed well beyond a single distance.
