Foaled in 1974 and sired by the great Nijinsky, Maruzensky retired unbeaten — eight starts, eight wins, most of them won with contemptuous ease. Because he was conceived abroad and imported in utero, the rules of the day shut him out of the Japanese Classics, and racing's most famous 'what if' never got his Derby. Voted Best Three-Year-Old Colt of 1976 under the old age system, he entered the JRA Hall of Fame in 1990 and went on to sire Derby winner Sakura Chiyono O.

A retro-Showa supercar girl with a permanent grin and a taste for speed, Maruzensky lives for the moment the road opens up. She drifts for fun, drives her father's second-hand red supercar, and finds that Eurobeat makes her right foot heavier. A Front Runner on mile turf — she takes the lead early and simply refuses to be caught.

She's in today's answer pool — put your knowledge to the test.
